Opmerking: This year I have two Alcantarea imperialis are in blooming, one is Alcantarea imperialis ‘Rubra’ from Australia since 2010, looks very different with the inflorescence, branches are compacter and ascending (instead of spreading, petals are thinner. It’s leaves are also shorter and more compact. What happened to the plant? If it is by cultural selection or a hybrid? (Verzonden: brom-l@science.uu.nl)

  • Opmerking: Graeme Barclay (2019-07-01) - Hi Li Ping, there are many different forms of Alc. imperialis, some crimson (Rubra), some green, some silvery-green coloured. They should all have pale creamy white petals though and large robust inflorescences, as per those in your photos. Alcantarea regina is closely related and similar too - see the encylopaedia descriptions and notes to compare.
