Habitat: on a general area of dry coastal vegetation, ca. 300 m. Elev.

Etymology: Named after Roberto Burle-Marx, a Brazilian landscape designer who promoted native bromeliads as ornamental plants and who introduced many new species in the Bromeliaceae to Science and horticulture.
