Habitat: terrestrial on humid quartzitic rock outcrops near semideciduous seasonal forest, ca. 650 m. Elev.

Etymology: The epithet honors the late botanist Apparicio P. Duarte, from Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro (RB), who collected the type.
