Guzmania foetida
(Uploaded as: Guzmania sp.)
Locality: Ecuador - Unknown - I purchased this from Ecuagenera in Cuenca, Ecuador last year. They labeled it as Guzmania devansayana1, but of course it is not Guz devansayana, and unfortunately, I have no locale information. I can't identify it, can you? It is flowering now in my greenhouse in Ohio (USA). It measures 110cm high x 91cm across. The inflated portion of the inflorescence is 3.8cm wide and 13cm high. The leaves are 63cm long and 2.5cm wide (in the middle). It is a fragrant night-blooming plant and the flowers open from the top of the inflorescence downward.

- Add Note: Jeffrey Kent (2014-12-02) - Looks a lot like Guzmania calothrysus from Peru.
- Add Note: Jerry Raack (2014-12-03) - Ivan Portilla said they have been growing this Guzmania for many years. It came from the cloud forest of Loma de la Virgen on the way from Gualaceo to Limon. He did not specify an elevation. I will check with him again. The pictures of Guzmania calothrysus in the Brom-L Encyclopedia show a very different inflorescence and flower shape. I'll check flowers again on my plant.
- Identification: Walter Till (2014-12-03) =Guzmania foetida
- Despite of the somewhat longer inflorescence of the plant illustrated here it fits well this species. notice that Rauh described his G. foetida from a plant cultivated in the Heidelberg Garden and it is well documented that one and the same individual can vary considerably under greenhouse conditions.
