Add Note: Eric Gouda (2010-05-19) - That name does not exist in Vriesea. The name V. punctulata does, but this Brazilian species has a tight spike with petals barely exceeding the floral bracts.
Do you think it is of natural origin.
It seems to be close to V.guttata or close relative and can be a hybrid of it. (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
Add Note: Derek Butcher (2010-05-19) - I was hesitating because there are so many new Vrieseas coming out of Brazil. To my eye it is what you would expect from crossing V. guttata with V. saundersii. The leaf spotting of saundersii seems to dominate in a hybrid. Howver, this particular cross has never been registered. If you have enough of these in Venezuela it may be worthwhile getting it recorded (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
Identification: HEL (2010-05-20) =Vriesea hybrid - I remember this from Fla. in the 1960s, said to be V. guttata x schwackeana. I was never interested enough to check into it. Havent seen it in many years. HEL (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
Add Note: Matthias Asmuss (2010-05-20) - leaf spotting is closer to saundersii than to guttata, inflorescence close to guttata, but I am not the hybridizer; since Harry remembers it to be linked even to schwackeana and Florida, does he also remember the origin ? I will try to make sure where I have it from. It is an easy propagator and worth registering it, since I have already given away lots of plants and due to its beauty. Add Note: Peter Tristram (2010-05-21) - I know this plant as V. Hoelscheriana. It is still quite popular in Australia because of the attractive foliage.

Identification: Matthias Asmuss (2010-05-21) =Vriesea 'Hoelscheriana' - I checked the photos on fcbs.org and the leaves are all the same comparing with my plant, the inflorescence is a little reddish in that probably older pictures, but could also be a product of shade; Vic's picture also confirms the good propagation. I do not know how old is Derek's info on this cultivar (posted by Peter), but just note that already by that time he suggested saundersii x guttata. Vriesea 'Hoelscheriana' is the best approach, the parentage remains uncertain. Thanks for all your help. (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
Add Note: Eric Gouda (2018-04-19) - Interestingly this plant is more widespread than thought before and Derek could be right. Maybe interesting to test the pollen to see if it is really a hybrid. We got it too from a BG in Austia. I have a simple infl. and one with two short branches, so if a hybrid, it is of a branched species. Elton also thinks is is a V.gutteana hybrid.
